Free Red Alert remake for Rusted Warfare

C&C Rusted Alert: WW2 Mod is a free mod for the strategy title Rusted Warfare. This recreates the 1996 classic Command & Conquer Red Alert in the familiar retro pixel art style game. Expect the drop in visual quality, but it looks cute to find familiar units and buildings get implemented in this old-school aesthetic.

Aside from the basic Allies and the Soviet factions, C&C Rusted Alert: WW2 Mod also includes content from the 1997 expansion pack Counterstrike and The Aftermath. Other C&C games include Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 and C&C: Generals Zero Hour.

Allies vs Soviet, retro-style

For unfamiliar players, C&C Rusted Alert: WW2 Mod was created for Rusted War, a simple and straightforward real-time strategy (RTS) game that can be played offline or online, alone or with public matchmaking servers. Open to a growing modding community, you can now recreate the classic Red Alert game, but on an active and accessible player base. With that said, the main trait here is the pixel art style.

As a custom add-on, Rusted Alert does a good job of recreating almost all units from both factions into the game. From the Construction Yard to the turrets like the iconic Tesla Tower, it’s fun to look at your expanding base, all with a retro minimalist visual appeal. Of course, it’s not a hundred percent recreation of the game, with most of the specialized technologies being unavailable in this version.

There are a few units, buildings, and techs that were left out but the scale of the mod remains commendable because it covers the Counterstrike and The Aftermath expansions. Also, another restriction with this mod is the availability of the maps. This mod comes with its own map packs, albeit limited. Unfortunately, this mod is prone to issues when used with other add-ons such as third-party map packs.

Your Red Alert game in pixel art

C&C Rusted Alert: WW2 Mod’s appeal lies in its smooth crossover of the two strategy franchises. Deploy iconic buildings and rally the familiar armies in Red Alert, all in the simplified retro artwork of Rusted Warfare. Sure, it’s not a perfect mod in terms of total conversion and the range of content but it works and is playable with friends. It could use more maps, but its still recommended.
